INSTALLATION AND AWARDS - JUNE 13, 2017
(Please see 20 photos below.)

Our Installation of Officers and Awards evening opened at 7:00 pm. The meeting held at the Roma Restaurant. In attendance were King Lion Debbie Martin, Laura Greene, Dan Hickey, Bill Cash, Bob Adler, John Pettis, Mark Perri, Tom Palmaccio, Karen Bona, John Bona, Chris Bona, Rick McPhee, Doug Fowler, Gary Albanese, Jane Sweeney, John Ryan, Sharon Pecci and Tony Pecci. Also in attendance were Haverhill Lion Rich Arel (much to the surprise of many in attendance) and his wife Theresa, potential new member Laurie Cantwell, the two recipients of our new scholarships and their families, and Pat Powell and Kathy Parker; the wives of Eric Powell and Kenny Parker. Beverly Lion, PDG Bill Jones drove down from North Conway, NH to be our installing officer for the evening. He burst into the room singing, “I am H. A. P. P. Y.” We sang along and there were plenty of smiles all around. It was wonderful to look around the room and see all these faces.

Following a five point opening, we went into happy and sad dollars. The members sang with gusto for King Lion Debbie Martin's last meeting. We even sang Happy Birthday to Dan Hickey and Tony Pecci as their birthdays were within a day or two of the meeting.

Our potential new member Laurie Cantwell left the room for a minute and while she was gone, we took the opportunity to vote her into our club.

Following the break for dinner, King Lion Debbie Martin presented her gifts to the members of her cabinet. She also presented a Lion of the Year award to Sharon Pecci. Congratulations Sharon!

Incoming King Lion Dan Hickey then presented the two scholarships to two young ladies from Haverhill High School. Our military scholarship went to Kyra Sevene, an ROTC member at school. The other scholarship went to Jennifer Magee, who will be attending college in the fall. Creating these scholarships was our club's Legacy Project with LCI.

PDG Bill Jones then stepped to the podium to perform the induction ceremony for our two new members. Rick McPhee and Laurie Cantwell were blindfolded while PDG Bill Jones spoke of Lions and asked them to imagine being blind. Soon the blindfolds were removed and they received their Lions pins and membership cards and a packet of information regarding our club.

PDG Bill Jones then began to install the new officers for our next Lions year. He asked King Lion Debbie Martin to light a candle and, in turn, light the candle that Incoming President Dan Hickey was holding. PDG Bill Jones asked each of the new officers to come forward to accept their new positions. Soon all the new officers were installed.

The festivities turned serious for a moment when PID John Pettis, Jr. stepped to the podium to announce that we were going to present a Melvin Jones Fellowship award to end the evening. Our newest Melvin Jones Fellow is Gary Albanese. Gary is a fifteen year member of the Haverhill Lions Club. He brought our club into the International spotlight by previously winning the International website award. Congratulations Gary! You work quietly behind the scene to keep our image sharp.
