Background:
Nicholas is a 9 year old Haverhill, Massachusetts boy, who as
an infant, was diagnosed with Lebers Congenital Amurosis, a degenerative
eye disease that has caused him to lose most of his sight. Nicholas
is a resilient young boy who has shown a great deal of courage
during this hard transition and has faced these challenges with
triumph.
In 2003, Nicholas was one of
the finalists selected to compete in the National Braille Challenge
in California and he did very well. (The Haverhill Lions Club
help pay for part of Nicholas' hotel expenses.)
Unfortunately, Nicholas was finding
it hard to continue this progress due to the lack of resources
and technology available to him.
Needed - Humanware
BrailleNote BT32: In
September 2004, the Haverhill Lions Club was asked by Nicholas'
family to help purchase the Humanware BrailleNote BT32 for him
to aid in his progress. The Haverhill Lions Club agreed to take
on this project as one of its major fundraising projects for
the 2004-2005 year.
